Aromatherapy of the Week: Allspice

allspice

Allspice Pimenta Dioica (pimenta officianalis) is a sweet and spicy aroma that is a bit of a cross between clove and cinnamon. The powder is traditionally seen in Pumpkin Pie recipes (I’ve even used it in tea blends when getting a cold), but the essential oil has a few benefits as well:

  • anti-viral and anti-bacterial (great for spraying around the house in a mix)
  • eases pain and arthritis (can be an irritant, so it needs dilution)
  • Warms and stimulates circulation

It blends wonderfully with Sweet Orange, ginger, patchouli, vanilla, and cedar as well as a few florals.
