Aromatherapy Monday: Lavender

Lavandula or Lavender is steam distilled from the flowers. There are many types of lavender but the most common are French Lavender and Bulgarian Lavender. You will find it in tons of bath products, relaxant products, salves, and much more. Unfortunately, many of these products have synthetic lavender.

True Lavender has a rich floral and herbaceous blend of an aroma. If you find yourself saying you don’t like lavender, double check to see if it is natural and not synthetic. Much of the fakes give people headaches, however true Lavender can help ease headaches. Another myth I like to dispel is that because it’s a flower, it’s only for women. However, many men’s colognes include lavender. I believe it’s more of a unisex aroma.

Here are some other benefits of using this very versatile and therapeutic flower…

  • healing burns and cuts
  • ease pain and reduce infection of burns and cuts
  • reduce scarring and bruising
  • may reduce anxiety
  • promotes sleep
  • good for respiratory issues
  • anti-bacterial and anti-fungal

Lavender is a great universal aroma to blend with other aromas (I honestly haven’t found any that didn’t smell lovely with it!). Particularly nice with citruses, clary sage, other florals.
